According to author Joy Fridman, `I always wanted to "create worlds", and I did so with art, music, poems and now children's books. Every person that brings something new and original, from his own heart, can change the way we see things and open our eyes to new possibilities. I wish my books will reach children all over the world, make them smile and ignite their creativity.' Joy has accomplished what he set out to do in this exceptionally fine children's book. He has selected Karen Dishaw as his illustrator and the pairing is perfectly in sync with the story.Landon, we learn, lives in a faraway land and owns a powerful sword, helmet and full armor: he is a knight. One day he is off to play with his friends when he spies a fire-breathing dragon. Frightened, he runs back to his friends where he and his friend Gil have a jolly romp until Jake, from another group of young knights, makes fun of Landon's armor saying he'd never be able to face the dragon! Dejected, Landon feels alone until Dawn the hummingbird reassures him that size doesn't matter. Inspired, Landon takes off toward the dragon's den but his armor is hot and he feels he can't go further. Dawn informs him that he doesn't need armor and pecks at Landon's armor until it shatter in to colorful crystals. He takes off to the den, encounters a dark tunnel at the den, and realizing he can't see, he thinks his helmet is hampering his journey. He tosses his helmet first and then his sword and when he reaches the end of the tunnel he sees the dragon asleep - the dragon is a dragon mother and Landon happily plays with her little dragons, rewarded by the mother dragon because he is brave, coming in just his pajamas. The dragon flies with Landon and the kids back to Landon's friends. Jack an the other knights laugh at him for not having on armor until the dragon and her kids come out of the forest to play. Landon and the dragon take everyone for a flying ride: everyone can overcome hardships and challenges!
The story is charming, very well written, has enough make believe yet relationship to reality that all children will love it! Highly recommended. Grady Harp, October 13

children book Landon and the Dragon Adventures for Children Book 1 edition by Joy Fridman Karen Dishaw Children eBooks Reviews
Very good book for young children. My 3 year old loved it! My 7 and 11 year olds would understand the book better but my toddler sat still long enough for me to read it to her and that is saying something. 😏
At the beginning of this story, Landon is frightened by the dragon and is then bullied by his peers. With the encouragement of a new friend, Landon summons up the courage to face his fears.
This book is well written, with a feel-good story, and a sound moral. The story is further enhanced by the cute and colorful illustrations by Karen Dishaw.
Definitely one to share with your children, especially young boys.
In a beautiful Zen story, a master put forth a problem to his disciples "You need to get inside a room with a terrible monster in order to take out a sacred scroll that lies just to the head of that monster. How will you do this?" The master received all kind of answers, from "I will use protective spells," to "I'll wear a magical armor," etc, but none of these answers seems to satisfy him. Until one day a new disciple said to him "I will get into the room, smile kindly to the monster and take out the scroll."
Joy Fridman's new and first children's book is a wonderful illustration of this story, written and crafted in a way that allows children to really internalize this life lesson. It has all the ingredients a good story should have a regular child that embarks on a transformative journey that redefine the word "hero", a master-teacher that shares his wisdom, a monster that is not really a monster - and a true message We can live better when we let go of our protections. This is definitely an idea - and a book - worth spreading.
I choose to give this ebook five stars for such a neat, sweet and charming adventure story! It had great colorful illustrations with a great storyline to it!
that is why I chose to give this book five stars. Great work Joy! I recommend this book for especially boys who seem to like stories like this probably more so than girls, right? I I liked this ebook made especially for boys, I.e. very young ones! I received this ebook free from an email ebook listing.
A thanks Joy for asking this ebook free so that many young people can have this book read and follow hopefully along with an older person reading it to them. By Angela
I have always loved books for children--both for the way they evoke my own childhood memories, and how they delight generations of young kids. And sometimes, a children's book comes along that is so entertaining and instructive, as well delightful to read that you're sure it's going to be a classic to be enjoyed by generations of kids. One such book is Joy Fridman's `Landon and the Dragon'.
With beautiful, colourful illustrations by Karen Dishaw, `Landon and the Dragon' is enthralling and is best when read aloud, especially considering that kids will most likely ask questions. Although the author did not compromise with the entertainment factor (children, after all, must feel the excitement in the story), Fridman still manages to subtly teach kids about the value of friendship, about the fact that things are not always what they seem (the "fearsome" dragon turns out to be a fun-loving mom to three little cubs), and often, those who bully us (like Jack) actually nurse weaknesses and only need our understanding most of all.
Overall, this is a short, adorable little children's book. `Landon and the Dragon' is perfect for young kids--I'm sure they will be inspired by Landon's courage, friendliness, and sense of adventure. Highly recommended!
